A landscape that changed the history of art

But it's not just nature that makes this place special. Horta de Sant Joan, our town, is closely linked to one of the most influential artists of the 20th century: Pablo Picasso.

Picasso spent two crucial periods of his life here. The first, as a young man recovering from an illness; and the second, years later, accompanied by his partner Fernande Olivier. During his stay, the artist was deeply influenced by the light, shapes, and power of the mountains that surrounded him.

In fact, it was here that he said one of his most famous phrases:

"Everything I know I learned in Horta."

Many believe that it was in this setting that the seeds of Cubism were born, contemplating the pure geometry of the landscape and rural life. Walking through these streets is like walking through the same place that forever transformed Picasso's vision.

To better understand this influence, today it's possible to visit the Picasso Centre, located in the former Renaissance hospital, where reproductions of works created or inspired by the artist in Horta are displayed, offering an intimate journey back to the origins of his artistic development.

A destination that has it all
